The Spirit |
The spirit of each person, Christian Israelites believe, pre-existed with God and is sent to be the life of the body and soul of each individual. Death comes when the spirit is withdrawn from the body by God. At death "the spirit returns to God who gave it" Ecclesiastes 12:7. Each person has an individual spirit especially sent from God. The spirit has knowledge of its existence with God in heaven but because of the veil (ie. from the evil associated with our life of blood - see Romans 8:20) it is unable to communicate this knowledge to us (see 1 Corinthians 13:9-12). At times, however, we can experience spiritual awareness or feeling (see 1 Corinthians 2:10-12).
"God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in Spirit and in truth" John 4:24.
"The spirit of man is the candle of the Lord" Proverbs 20:27. Jesus said unto them, "Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I am" John 8:58. "Oh Father, glorify thou me with thine own self, with the glory which I had with thee before the world was" John 17:5. The Lord said to Jeremiah, "Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee" Jeremiah 1:5.
In summary, the spirit has a pre-existing knowledge of God before it comes to this life, but in this life is unable to impart this knowledge to the soul because of the veil - the evil. The evil is in the blood. It is the blood that keeps our physical bodies alive (see Romans 7:23,24; Leviticus 17:11).
Whilst the soul and body that each person has contains genetically inherited factors from our earthly parents (see Exodus 1:5), the spirit of an individual is given directly from God. Different types of spirits exist - "Ye know not what manner of spirit ye are of" Luke 9:55. The type of spirit each receives is foreknown by God only.
So a spirit, soul and body is required to make up a complete mortal being in this life.
